The Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is a founding member agency of the EDC and a County government agency. In 2000, the agency, established by state statute as the Clarksville-Montgomery County Tourist Commission, adopted to do business as the Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The primary purpose and mission of the CVB is to positively influence tourism in the Clarksville-Montgomery County area. In defining tourism, a tourist is understood as an individual who is not a resident of the Clarksville-Montgomery County area and has chosen to travel within the limits of Montgomery County for either business, pleasure, or as a matter of consequence/necessity.
The CVB was established in June of 1979 by the state of Tennessee. The CVB has brought many visitors and events to the Clarksville area through the years and interest in Clarksville-Montgomery County continues to grow. In 1992, a group of Montgomery County community leaders began a study of how economic development was taking place in Montgomery County and Clarksville. The group determined that unification of the Chamber, the Industrial Development Board, and the CVB would maximize efforts and produce stronger results in industrial recruiting and community marketing. In 2000, following passage of legislation changing the organizational structure of the Commission and increasing funding, the Board of Directors adopted to do business as the Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Governance of the agency consists of a Board of Directors with nine voting members serving three-year terms and selected by joint approval of the City and County Mayor. One member of the CVB shall be affiliated with the hotel-motel business.
The CVB is funded by 5 1/4 percent of the hotel/motel tax and non-dues income.
By contract, the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council provides management and staffing for the CVB.
The CVB is a member of several major organizations. These organizations provide specialized services to the EDC through each of its four agencies. Examples of some of these organizations are:
Tennessee Department of Tourism
Tennessee Tourism Round Table
Travel Industry Association
American Bus Association
Tennessee Hotel/Motel Association
Tennessee Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau
International Association of Convention & Visitors Bureau
National Tour Association
